Back to Basics

Published on 07/14/10 05:33PM

With September about 7 weeks aways its a great time to review your club systems, staff training and your future business plans. Most facilities are no longer feeling like they are in a business crisis anymore which is great. Now is a good time to look torwards the future to see how you are going to get your business to the next level.

What has the past year in the fitness industry taught us? One thing for sure is that the weak won't survive. Lots of managers and owners where shocked that their businesses where failing when all they could have done to prevent it was to simply work harder, implement systems, spend time to train staff and by getting motivated to kick ass.

Thomas Plummer, who is the key note speaker at the NFBA workshops, has recently written a bunch of blogs on work ethic and how we choose to live our lives.

That said the fitness industry is changing. The consumer's wants have changed and they want results!

My advise as you start to look forward - get out of your comfort zone. Train your staff till your blue in the face, get to know your members, get rid of some equipment and add some functional equipment! Host a club party, go to some type of workshop and drive your business everyday by the numbers.

The NFBA offers business workshops every month. Perform Better and TRX always have training happening - The take away from this is that you can never stop learning, questions and driving towards success.

I travel with Thom every month to almost every workshop he does and I am always learning something new. It simply dumbfounds me that people won't attend a workshop because they think they know it all!

So get back to the basics. Remember your business plan, re-organize your life, create goals and get serious. Your future depends on it!
